Guidelines For Making A Quilt

1.  Suggested quilt donation size is 38" x 46"

2.  BATTING:  Use only LOW LOFT batting - 1/8" or 1/4" poly or cotton.

3.  MACHINE QUILTING:  The quilt needs to be machine pieced and machine quilted.  Please put in a lot of quilting - even in the borders, as the quilts go through daily washer and dryer cycles in the hospitals and could be a potential choking hazard.

4.  Please, no hand tied quilts or embellishments as they will not hold up to the industrial washers and dryers in the hospitals and could be a potential choking hazard.

5.  THREAD:  Please use cotton or poly.  Do not use any invisible/mono-filament thread.  It melts.

6.  BINDING METHODS:  You can "pillowcase" the quilt before quilting, use traditional binding, or fold the backing to the front of the quilt.  If using the backing as the binding, cut the batting even with the top of the quilt and the backing an inch larger.  Double fold the backing to the front of the quilt and top stitch with zig-zag, blanket stitch, etc. so it does not snag on an IV.

7. CHECK THE QUILT FOR PINS!  Use a color catcher product in the wash cycle if you think the fabric could run.

8.  Please wash and dry the quilt and place in a large 2 or 2.5 gallon zip lock bag so that it is ready to be gifted.
